This is a wonderful Renaissance intaglio, dating to the 16th - 17th century. It is cut on a heliotrope (bloodstone) gem, with three portraits. Possibly representing emperors Septimius Severus and Caracalla? It is a very well cut piece, very Roman in style (but I feel it is a later inspired copy). During the 16th - 17th-century pieces such as this were highly sought by European collectors. A nice antique gem, worthy of further research.
