This is an ancient Scandinavian Viking silver finger ring, dating to the 9th - 10th century A.D. The ring is formed from a hammered bar of silver, hammered to form a broad band. The narrowing hoop terminates into a thinner wire with the ends joined in a slip-knot. This type of rings seems to have been popular in Scandinavia, being found in treasure hoards and as stray finds in England. Recorded examples can be seen ESS-9CB5B8, NCL-90DD85, SWYOR-380021 with further examples in the British Museum, 1921,1101.377
