Iron Age Celtic Bronze Coiled Spiral Ring

SOLD

Code: 10491

This is an ancient Iron Age (Celtic) bronze finger ring, dating to the 2nd century B.C. - 2nd century A.D. The ring is made of copper alloy wire which is circular in section and has a diameter of 3.7mm. It is coiled into a spiral of one and a half turns. The internal diameter of the ring is just 13mm, making it quite small to be worn on a finger, so likely a toe-ring. A similar example from Camerton, Somerset (1990) is illustrated in the Iron Age Artefact Identification Guide (Worrell, 2009, unpublished). Others recorded as ASHM-A490ACLVPL-44C761HESH-A3BB08 etc. It is a good looking piece, discovered by a metal detectorist in Wiltshire.
