This is a great looking Iron Age to Roman bead, dating to c. 100 B.C. - 200 A.D. This example is quite large, it appears to have been cut as a form of decoration or to add scented cloth. Several similar beads are recorded SOM-370A52, WAW-0348B1 and NMS-C36251. The later Iron Age saw beads strung on necklaces or swags, though an object such as this might have served as the terminal for an object such as a torc or bangle. This example is intact with a nice deep chocolate brown patina.
