This is a nice Saxon period gold pendant, dating to the 8th - 10th century A.D. It is produced from a sheet of gold, decorated with fine wire and granulation work. The bezel is missing the original gemstone or enamel setting. Fine granulation work is found late Saxon period jewellery, see LON-3478C7 and PAS-D681D8 for further discussion. This example is in excellent excavated condition - though is missing the original setting.
