This is a large and impressive silver-gilt pendant, dating to the 16th - 17th century A.D. The pendant is a cast, hand tooled and chased, likely from a gold-mounted cameo. The scene is of the Virgin Mother, Christ child, and infant John the Baptist, as painted by Raphael during the Florentine period. The subjects are depicted as sitting out in the countryside, under a tree chased with the detail of a miniature painting. The border is designed as foliage framing the image. It is an interesting piece, from a private German collection and will benefit from further research.
