This is a wonderful medieval heraldic harness pendant, dating to the 13th - 14th century A.D. It is finely enameled with the armorial of Bohun: "Azure, a bend argent cotised or between six lions rampant or". This refers to the arms of Humphrey de Bohun, 3rd Earl of Hereford or his son Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford. Such a pendant would have been worn on the harness and horse trappings of retained knights, especially those within the service of the Earl of Hereford and Earl of Essex, and Constable of England.
This example has survived in good condition, still with the dark blue enamel, although the silvering and gilding have worn.
