This is an ancient Greco-Persian chalcedony intaglio, dating to the 5th - 4th century B.C. It is nicely cut with a depiction of a lively hunting scene, with a rider spearing a boar, his dog leaping up. The boar stands under a tree, with detail to the branches quite evident. The intaglio is cut on a gem, not moulded from a glass. It is quite smooth and surface weathered, likely being mounted into a gold ring. A perfect and very ancient gem in excavated condition, ideal for a serious collection or can be remounted into a gold signet ring today.
