This is a section of late Roman gold chain, dating to the 4th - 5th century A.D. The chain may have formed part of a necklace, or worn as a bracelet by a young child. It is made in the loop-in-loop (plaited) design, similar to those found in the Thetford Treasure (in the British Museum). The chain is very well made, still flexible and of a great looking (high carat) gold. A good piece of the Roman goldsmith's art to wear and treasure!
