This is a fabulous Renaissance silver seal, dating to the late 16th century A.D. The design represents a lion and unicorn emerging from a forest, three stars above. Depictions of lions and unicorns are often associated with Scotland and England, however, the most famous use of this design is found on The Lady and the Unicorn tapestry (Paris c.1500). The seal is intact with an Italian style tall handle, the back of the seal is engraved with a rose design. A great looking piece that would have been used to seal letters in a noble household.
