This is a nice medieval silver Agnus Dei plaque, dating to the 14th - 16th century. The plaque is made from silver sheet, decorated with repoussé work. The design of the Lamb of God used as a symbol of Jesus as a "sacrificial lamb". He is depicted with a banner, used as one of the symbols of the Knights Templar. Wax discs that had been blessed by the Pope were also termed as 'Agnus Dei', these were often kept in reliquaries similar to this disc (that may have once acted as a cover). The condition is good, the back retains traces of its original fixing.
