This is a nice Jacobean period silver finger ring, dating to the early 17th century. The outer band is decorated with a raised border of pellets, similar to that found on posy rings (SOM-9C6E01) (SF-1B214E) that have been dated to the Tudor and Stuart periods. Posy rings bore an inscription inside the band, visible to only the giver and receiver. These rings were given as betrothal gifts or wedding rings. This example bears no inscription inside the band, so would have been more suited as a wedding band.
