This is a much loved ancient Scandinavian Viking finger ring, dating to the 9th - 10th century A.D. The ring has been cast in bronze, having a twisted design to the hoop. The decoration is worn but would have originally appeared to resemble a twisted ropework design. Its large size would suggest it once belonged to a man, he must have worn this ring for most of his life (to give the bronze the this amount of wear). It has survived in good excavated condition with a nice olive green patina, a good ring suitable relic to be worn again today.
