This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 2bd - 3rd century A.D. The ring is set with the original carnelian intaglio, depicting a fish. The intaglio is set tight and all original to the ring. The Fish was used as a secret symbol to identify early Christians, though the original owner could have also been a fisherman or fishmonger. Sadly the lower hoop of the ring is split. Still a nice and original jewel for the collector.
