This is a wonderful 18k gold and diamond cross pendant, dating to the 18th century. This example is set with the original 13 rose-cut and senaille diamonds. The intricate filigree surround is of cruciform shape, with each quadrant displaying a fleur shaped cluster set with diamonds. This type of lozenge-shaped jewel was termed "Sequilé" in Portugal, being extremely fashionable from the late 17th and 18th century. The back of the pendant bears a pin, this enables to the jewel to be both worn as a brooch or pendant.
