This is a lovely Tudor period silver sweetheart ring, dating to the late 16th - early 17th century A.D. The ring has a large heart-shaped bezel, engraved with the initials R.D. presumably 'R' for the gentleman and 'D' for the lady. Rather than R.D. being the initials of a single person (as we perceive them today) during the Tudor period, these were bound between a 'lovers knot' indicating the giver and receiver bound together. The initials are cut in 'Roman capitals' with little flourishes as used toward the end of the Elizabethan age, into the early Stuart period.
the ring is in good excavated condition, the bezel having a bit of wear (indicating it must have been worn and loved for a good many years by the original owner. A nice piece of wearable historic jewellery for a collector.
