This is a Tudor silver sixpence of Queen Elizabeth Ist, minted in London in 1596.
Obverse inscription: ELIZAB: D G'. ANG' FR ET HI REGI ( "Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland") Crowned bust left, rose behind, mintmark
Reverse inscription: POSVI DEV' ADIVTOREM MEV ("I have made God my helper") Square topped shield quartered by long cross fourchee dividing legend, date above. 1596. The mintmark appears to be a key over a woolpack, the die may have been an old one (judging by the degradation of the lettering in the legend) reused, so would date to the early part 1596.
