This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 2nd - 3rd century AD. It is set with its original dark red glass intaglio of a scorpion. The gem would have been used to seal documents but also to ward off negative influences as an apotropaic amulet. The band of the ring has a light crack caused during burial. It can still be worn with care and consideration for its great age. A nice excavated ring for the collector or museum.
