This is a Tudor silver sixpence of Queen Elizabeth Ist, minted in London in 1589.
Obverse inscription: ELIZAB: D G'. ANG' FR ET HIB REGI ( "Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland") Crowned bust left, rose behind, mintmark crescent.
Reverse inscription: POSVI/ DEV' AD/1VTORE/M MEV ("I have made God my helper") Square topped shield quartered by long cross fourchee dividing legend, date above. 1589. The mintmark being a clear crescent.
This coin was issued shortly after the English victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588.
