This is an interesting medieval bronze seal, dating to the 13th - 14th century. The seal is of a 'chessman' type, engraved with a central device of a 'Star of David' or 'Seal of Solomon'. It bears an inscription in a Lombardic script, it is difficult to make out, since it may also be in Hebrew. The seal is as excavated and has a nice apple green patina. Such a seal would have been used to seal and authenticate transactions in trade, being the personal seal of a merchant. It also could have acted as a magical seal, for Kabbalah, the magical 'Star' would have acted as an amulet of protection.
