This is a superb medieval bronze seal, dating to the 13th century. The seal is cut with an armorial of five towers, the legend in 'Lombardic-script' "S' Iohis Serem (Señor) Da Tore" for the seal of Sir John, Lord of Torre (the arms of five towers have been attributed to the noble Torres family in Spain). It would appear this seal was either locked away in a chest or kept in a cathedral treasury. It is in perfect condition, with a fabulous chocolate patina from centuries of being handled. Ex. Drouot Million, Paris 2013.
