This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 2nd century A.D. It is set with its original sard gemstone intaglio, well cut with an image of the goddess Fortuna. She is depicted as enthroned, holding a cornucopia and rudder. The ring is in excavated condition, with the lower band distorted with an impact from burial. The gem is intact without any cracks or damage. Similar intaglio rings have been recorded from Norfolk (DENO-D7631D), Stafford (WMID-6C01C1) and Bedford (BH-737CD3).
