This is a wonderful Jacobean silver-gilt posy ring, dating to the late 16th - early 17th century. The outer band is decorated with a chequerboard pattern, whilst the inside is inscribed "NEVER TO CHANGE". The style of lettering (Roman capitals) gives us a date of late Tudor - early Stuart (the period of Queen Elizabeth I and King James). The inscription relates to the giver's love (never to change). Originally both the inscription and outer band would have been set with enamel. A fragment of a similar ring is recorded as PAS-8DAF04, with two gold examples PAS-381372 and LEIC-1E4CF4. This ring has survived intact and in a worn (antique) condition, missing much of the original enamel. A great looking early ring
