This is a Scandinavian Viking/Medieval silver finger ring, dating to the 10th - 12th century A.D. The ring is formed from two rods of silver twisted together, the terminals hammered and welded to form a complete round hoop. This example is a good piece of Viking age jewelry, similar examples recorded SUSS-588B26, KENT-4D4DB5and SUR-C33FB2.
The inside of the hoop has an old test punch mark, to check for plated silver. This usually is indicative of use in a bullion economy, where silver jewellery was used as a form payment. A nice historic ring that can still be worn today.
