This is a superbly sculpted hardstone cameo of Psyche, dating to the 19th century. The layered chalcedony gemstone is cut utilizing the various natural layers in the stone, her head carved from a creamy white layer, whilst the field on a translucent grey layer. It is a large piece, designed for a pendant or brooch.
