Roman bronze finger ring set with jet

This is an ancient Roman bronze finger ring, dating to the 3rd - 4th century A.D. The ring is set with the original magical polished jet gemstone. The jet likely originated in Britain, where a vast industry of jet mining and jewellery production around York (see JET INDUSTRY IN ROMAN YORK for further study). Jet was believed to be magical and protective. This ring has survived in very good excavated condition, the band slightly distorted but wearable!
