This is a nice medieval silver-gilt doublet button, dating to the 15th - 16th century. The button is intricately made in filigree wire, set with a garnet gemstone. It is a handsome button, one that would have been sewn onto a richly brocaded fabric of a doublet or jupon. The use of buttons replaced ring-brooches from the 14th century. This is a very good and original example in excellent condition.
