This is a wonderful Elizabethan gold finger ring, dating to the 16th - or possibly into the early 17th century. It is decorated with a cruciform shaped bezel, with four collects each set with a turquoise gemstone. One appears to have been a replacement or has naturally darkened. The settings are all rubbed over and the shape and workmanship is early. The ring has a decorated hoop to the shoulders than may have once been set with enamel.
Turquoise during this period was valued for its amuletic properties, thought to protect the wearer against poisoning, drowning, or having an accident while riding.
This is a nice example that excudes plenty of charm!
