Jacobean gold posy ring "My Choyse Admits Noe Change"

SOLD

Code: 11214

This is a fabulous example of a gold posy ring, dating to the early 17th century A.D. The ring is inscribed "My Choyse Admits Noe Change" a sentiment not recorded in Evans. It bears a makers marks within a shield-shaped punch. The mark is similar to one listed in 'English goldsmiths and their marks', by Sir Charles J. Jackson page 104 (see photo) although the letters appear to be the same of an I.H in monogram the shape of the punch is different. The shield-shaped punch was in use from the late 16th century into the early 17th century.  It is a very nice ring that would have been worn as a wedding band, can be worn again today.
