This is a magnificent Anglo Saxon period gold finger ring, dating to the 7th - 8th century A.D. The band is nicely decorated with interlaced wirework design. This decoration consists of two wires plaited together, between two beaded wires set between two twisted wires - all laid down onto a gold sheet forming the base. The band is fused together and retains a single granulation. Such a ring would have been a high-status object, possibly worn as a wedding band or indicative of nobility, royalty etc.
A very rare finger ring in wearable condition with the fused join still tight.
