This is an ancient Germanic/Saxon period gold pendant, dating to the 6th - 7th century A.D. It made from hammered gold sheet, with a raised repoussé design around a pyramidal garnet gemstone. The suspension loop is ribbed and is typical of Anglo-Saxon pendants of the late 6th and early 7th centuries (see KENT-AC7E52, WMID-43EE37, CAM-379F45, SF-40EE34 for further discussion). A nice example in excavated condition.
