Neoclassical hardstone cameo of Psyche

This is a superbly sculpted hardstone cameo of Psyche, dating to the early to mid 19th century. The layered chalcedony gemstone is cut utilizing the various natural layers in the stone, her head carved from a creamy white layer, whilst the field on a translucent layer. It is a nice piece of hand-cut sculpture, designed for a pendant or brooch.
