This is a nice medieval heraldic stud, dating to the 13th - 14th century. The arms depict "sable, a semy of trefoils slipped, two barbels hauriant addorsed" or something to that effect! It retains much of the original black enamel and has a dark patina. This item would have been attached to a wooden casket or riveted onto leather, it is intact with the fixing stud on the back. A nice object that requires some research into the original owner who would have been a Knight.
