This is a superb medieval bronze seal, dating to the 13th - 14th century. It is nicely cut with a device of a bill hook emblazoned on a shield. The legend is inscribed in a Lombardic script, reading as " +:S:VARRI*DCOREDONO" This would translate as "the seal of Varri Dordogne?" The original seller of this seal sold it as from a Butcher, the shape of the bill hook is more reminiscent of forestry, where this shaped blade was adapted onto long polearms by the English to be used as weapons (see "bills" and "billmen") so it may have been from a master Billman or a mercenary company using this device as a badge? This is an excellent and original medieval seal, deeply cut with perfect and spaced lettering. This seal was from an old collection formed in Strasburg in France.
