This is a large and impressive silver pectoral crucifix pendant, dating to the late 15th - early 16th century. The cross is formed as a 'T' known as a 'Tau Cross' was associated with Saint Anthony (the Great), worn as a talisman, to protect the wearer from the plague and infectious disease. This pendant is profusely decorated with foliate design, engraved, and stippled. Each angle is set with a decorative rosette and it retains the original suspension ring. This is an exceptional item, in excellent and museum-worthy condition. It was originally found in the North of England and recently acquired from an old Lincolnshire collection. Marvelous in all respects!
