This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 2nd century A.D. The ring is set with the original carnelian intaglio depicting a military eagle with a victory wreath in its beak. The gemstone is tightly set in a rubbed over mount, intact, and as excavated. The shape of the finger ring can be classified as a Henig (2007) Type Xb. see WAW-963FA6 for comparison.
