This is an ancient Roman gold finger ring, dating to the 3rd - 4th century AD. The band of the ring widens to form a flat rount bezel, decorated with an incised star design. The design is reminiscent of an early Christian Chi-Rho symbol, see LEIC-5FC533 for comparison. The Chi Rho is a Christian symbol for “Christ” written by superimposing the two Greek letters “Chi (X)” and “Rho (P)” which are the first two letters in Greek of the name of “CHRist.” This ring would have been worn by a child, or on the upper joints of the finger (as was the custom). A nice little ring in excavated condition.
