This is an ancient Roman gold finger ring, dating to the 3rd century A.D. The ring is set with a red almandine garnet simply cut with an intaglio. This depicts a small figure of Priapos, standing on a column before an altar, in which a female figure is offering up a libation. The gem is simply cut and has a chip to the top right corner. The ring is intact and excavated.
