This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 1st - 2nd century A.D. The ring is set with the original layered sardonyx intaglio depicting a standing figure, to be identified as that of Artemis of Ephesus. The gemstone is tightly set in a rubbed overmount, although some slight loss of the rim it is still solid, but the lower half of the hoop is distorted and has a stress crack. The ring is solid and wearable with care.
