This is an ancient Roman silver denarius, of emperor Septimius Severus, minted at Rome in 207 AD.
Obverse: SEVERVS PIVS AVG "Severus, the pious emperor (Augustus)" laureate head right
Reverse: P M TR P XV COS III P P, "High priest, holder of tribunician power for the 15th time, consul for the third time, father of the nation" Victory, winged, naked to waist, standing right, left foot set on globe, holding stylus in right hand and inscribing round shield held in left hand and set on palm.
A superb example in EF condition.
