Ancient Roman silver denarius of Caracalla / Sol

This is an ancient Roman silver denarius, of emperor Caracalla, minted at Rome in 204 AD. 

Obverse: ANTONINVS AVGVSTVS, "The August Antoninus" laureate, draped, cuirassed bust right

Reverse: PONTIF TR P IIII, "[High] priest, holder of tribunician power for the fourth time." Sol standing facing, head left, holding globe and reversed spear.  

A nice example with a good portrait of this young prince in better days, whilst he was a joint emperor with his father Septimius Severus and younger brother Geta.




DATE: 198 - 217 AD (this coin minted in 204 AD)

SIZE: 18mm dia

WEIGHT: 3.36 grams
