Queen Elizabeth I Tudor Silver Shilling

£400.00 Approx $498.13, €466.74

Code: 11712

This is a Tudor silver shilling (12 pence) of Queen Elizabeth, minted in London between 1560 - 1561 AD.

Obverse inscription: ELIZABETH : D : G : ANG : FR : ET : HI : REGINA,  ( "Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland") Crowned bust left, mintmark 'Cross crosslet'.

Reverse inscription: POSVI DEV' ADIVTOREM MEV ("I have made God my helper") Square topped shield quartered by long cross fourchee dividing legend, mintmark 'Cross crosslet' above.

This is a nice example, full weight and has a good clear portrait. It has suffered from a knock but is intact and grades GVF in my opinion.
