This is an exceptional medieval silver ecclesiastic seal, dating to the 13th century. This example is deeply cut with a standing figure holding a book and crozier. the inscription is cut in a Lombardic script and reads as
"SIGILL'ABBATIS DE Binnedona" ("the seal of the Abbot of Bindon) would relate to the Abbot Bindon Abbey. The abbey had the support of the Plantagenet kings, and Henry III granted several letters of protection. The seal is in excellent condition and hails from a private collection of seals, a rare object and seldom offered this good!
