This is an ancient Roman hardstone cameo of Germanicus, dating to the 1st century BC. The gem is nicely cut on a layered onyx, the polychrome has been affected by intense heat from a fire or pyroclastic blast (as we find on coins and jewellery from Pompeii). The gem is original and untouched and very rare.
