Stuart armorial 18k gold fob seal of Lady Jenkinson, of Walton

This is a delightful 18k gold armorial fob seal, dating to the late 17th century. It is decorated with an ornate openwork handle of a chessman type design. The device consists of a lozenge (denoting a Lady), 'ermine, a bend, fusily, gules'. These arms are associated with the Jenkinson baronetcy, of Walton Hall, Chesterfield, in the County of Derby. It was created on 17 December 1685 for Paul Jenkinson, who was High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1687. The title became extinct on the death of the third Baronet in 1739. The arms held within a diamond/lozenge rather than a shield would indicate it was used by a female in the family, such as the wife or mother of the 1st - 3rd Baron. It is an elegant looking seal that would have been used to seal letters and authenticate transactions.
