This is a nice and original Renaissance gold chain section, dating to the late 16th century. It consists of forty-one links, alternating twisted and grooved (likely set with enamel). The chain would have been much longer, likely a long chain. Similar chains have been recovered from the Cheapside Hoard. A rare and interesting piece of early jewellery in excavated condition and very RARE!
