Substantial Roman gold intaglio ring of Bonus Eventus "Good Outcome"

This is a substantial ancient Roman solid gold finger ring, dating to the 2nd century AD. This is example has a wide geometric decorated band. The oval bezel is set with the original carnelian intaglio, cut with a design of Bonus Eventus the Roman deity who represented the concept of success or of a "Good Outcome" see also LIN-443672 for a similar intaglio. He is depicted with a libation bowl in his outstretched hand, with the other holding stalks of grain. Rings of this bold design in silver, usually have a military inscription/intaglio and are often associated with gifts of valour or as military rewards. This gold example would have been a very prestigious gift, likely associated with one of Equestrian status. A superb and very wearable ancient ring in excellent condition.
