This is a nice antique silver wine funnel and strainer, dating to the early 19th century. It bears a date of London 1814 and a double-struck makers mark of W.P (for William Pitts). It has an elegant swan-necked body with an applied reeded border and funnel struts (that allow for aeration when decanting), a pull out hand-pierced strainer with an applied reeded border. This also bears a secondary silver ring to retain a muslin straining cloth. The inside bowl has a delightful lemon gold gilding and is engraved with a rampant lion crest.
