This is an ancient Roman gold solidus of emperor Valentinian III dating to circa 441 - 450 AD
Obverse: DN VALENTIN-IANVS P F AVG, "Our Lord Valentinianus, Pious and Blessed August" Pearl-diademed, helmeted, cuirassed bust three-quarter facing, spear in right hand over shoulder, shield with horseman in left
Reverse: IMP . XXXXII . COS-XVII . P . P . Constantinopolis enthroned left, globus cruciger in right hand, sceptre in left, left foot on prow, shield at right.
This is a superb example in about EF condition with plenty of mint lustre. This coin was struck at Constantinople between 441 - 450 AD right in the middle of the Roman conflict with Atilla the Hun!
