This is an ancient Scandinavian Viking silver ingot trade bar, dating to the 10th - 12th century A.D. Such objects were frequently produced from larger caches of silver bullion, taken in raids or through trade, and melted down for convenient transportation. This is a smaller bar of around 7 pennies, so probably traded as such.
